  With only a single exception, [QDoJaAG-1891a] the birth record of the eldest Australian born child of John Edward Fairbanks and Elizabeth (Lush) Fairbanks, Ethel Fairbanks is mentioned in every birth record of her younger siblings. But since Ethel Fairbanks does not appear on the passenger manifest of the Taroba, she may be adopted or a child informally raised by the Fairbanks family as their own. She also appears to have passed away prior to her father’s death in 1938. Coincidentally, an “Ethel Fairbanks” of the same age is listed in the 1901 Irish Census for County Sligo. This Ethel is living with Euphemia (Thomson) Fairbanks and is listed as a niece. [3, 4, 9, 10]
