Notes

It is not clear if James’ surname was “Maston,” as indicated in the 1860 and 1880 US Federal Census’, or “Masten” as listed in the 1870 US Federal Census Index. Horace Greely Masten, James’ eldest son, used the latter spelling throughout most of his life. On the other had the Works Progress Administration, Indiana Marriage Records have James and most of his children marrying in Martin County using the name Maston. [2, 6, 7]
James B Maston’s father and mother were born in Deleware and Ohio respectively. [2]
