    Notes 
    • There is considerable confusion about where James W Eastman and Mabel M Dean were married due to the fact that the marriage was recorded in three different Massachusetts localities. Examination of [NEGHS-1884a] and [Townsend-1884a] (two of the three existing records), shows that the marriage was registered in Townsend (James’ residence at the time) on 2 July 1884. The couple was married at Pepperell, Middlesex County, a small town near Townsend, on 22 July 1884, and that the marriage was also recorded at Taunton, Bristol County (Mabel’s residence just before the marriage).     • Despite numerous census records from the 1800’s that list the family surname as “Dean”, Mabel’s surname at birth, and as used by most of her closest relatives, was “Deane”. This surname is also consistent with Tutein family letters and interviews that refer to the wife of James Warren Eastman as, “Mabel Deane”. [5, 6, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20]
