    Notes
    • “10 Mar 1849” and “Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts”, derived from [LDS-IGI-1982c], are probably references to the date and location of Warren and Rachel’s registration of their intention to marry... not their actual marriage. [9]
    • [NEHGS-1849a] does not actually state that Warren Eastman and Rachel Young Cole were married in Quincy, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, but the location is assumed due to the following: Rachel and Warren were residents of Chelsea at the time; the marriage was registered in Quincy, and the officiating pastor was also from Quincy. • Notes
    • Emily Ann Eastman appears twice in “Wellfleet Births, Marriages, Deaths 1843 - 1859, Volume 2”. First on page 37, entry 41 with a birthdate of 16 Feb 1853. Second on page 41, entry 119 with a birthdate of 16 Feb 1854. Since it is highly unlikely that a second child with the same name was born exactly one year later, this database assumes that this is simply an entry mistake. Moreover, no death record has yet been found for an older daughter named Emily Ann Eastman. [10]
    • John A. and Emily Ann (Eastman) Nelson were living with Emily’s parents, Warren and Rachel Young (Cole) Eastman at the time of the enumeration of 1870 US Federal census. However, both Emily and John are listed as single, and John is listed as a “boarder” in the Eastman home in Chelsea. It may be the case that the census information was gathered before the date of John and Emily’s marriage in May of that year. [1, 6]
    • Emily “Emma” Ann Eastman used her maiden name and listed herself as “single” in the 1880 US Federal census. In addition, her 10 year old son, John Albert Nelson, is listed in the same household as a “boarder”. Therefore it’s likely that Emily’s marriage to the elder John A Nelson in May of 1870 was simply to provide legitimacy to their son’s birth, and they did not live as husband and wife thereafter. [1, 7, 11]
    • There is an Eastman family rumor that a daughter of Warren and Rachel Young (Cole) Eastman was living in California at the time of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and was not heard from again afterwards. Given that [NHBoVR-1898a2] indicates that John Albert Nelson Jr.’s mother was living in California at the time of his 2nd marriage and that no other Eastman children were ever recorded as living in California, Emily “Emma” Ann Eastman may have been that lost daughter.
