2. | ![]() ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: According to [Fairbanks-1949], Euphemia died at the age of 58 attended by two of her children (a son and a daughter) who then emigrated to Australia after their mother’s death--the other children having emigrated previously. However this is contradicted by [UK-GRO-1908a] and [LaAC-1913a]. The children that were living with Euphemia at the time of her death were probably Thomas and Martha, both of whom emigrated to Canada along with their sister Beatrice in 1913. Euphemia married Richard Fairbanks on 19 Nov 1860 in Kingsbarns, Kingsbarns Parish, County Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom. Richard (son of Edward Fairbanks and Eliza Mann) was born about 1837 in (unknown); died on 29 Dec 1885 in Templehouse, County Sligo, Province of Connacht, Ireland, United Kingdom. 3. | Alexander Thomson ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Alexander Thomsen does not appear [Scotland-1861a]. He may have died as a teen or had left home by 1861, as he was 18 by the time that census was taken. |
4. | Betsy Thomson ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
|
5. | John Thomson ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
|
6. | James Thomson ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
|
7. | Charle Thomson ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
|
8. | John Edward Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Fairbanks-1949] claims that John Fairbanks was killed in the Boer War while serving with the British Military. However this conflicts with [QDoJaAG-1938a] and [QSA-1888a]. John married Elizabeth Lush on 23 May 1882 in Easky, County Sligo, Province of Connacht, Ireland, United Kingdom. Elizabeth was born about 1863 in Easky, County Sligo, Province of Connacht, Ireland, United Kingdom; died on 19 Mar 1954 in Gatton, Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia; was buried on 20 Mar 1954 in Helidon General Cemetery, Helidon, Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. 9. | Richard Alexander Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Although the information in [US-NARA-2004a] is not conclusive as to whether this is Richard, the brother of Robert Fairbanks that emigrated with him to the US, a number of facts make more sense in light of this record. First, the birth date around 1863, would make this individual the second eldest son of Richard Fairbanks and Euphemia Thomson. Second, this is the only passenger manifest discovered to date that contains a ‘Richard Fairbanks’ that emigrated to the US in 1888, the same year as his younger brother Robert. |
10. | James Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Consistent with the so-called “birth” entry for his younger brother, 6 Oct 1865 probably refers to James’ baptism rather than his date of birth. |
11. | ![]() ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Fairbanks-1978] has Robert Fairbanks’ birthplace as Coventry, England in 1869. [US-INS-1898a] has Robert’s birth in Warwickshire, England on 3 Sep 1867. However both of these conflict with [Sligo-1867]. In this database we use “3 Sep” on the presumption that Robert knew his own birth date and that 20 Sep 1867 (from the Irish civil registration records) is probably Robert’s christening date--actual birth dates being recorded only very rarely in England and Ireland at the time. For the birth location, we use Coolaney, County Sligo, Province of Connaught, Ireland--First, because it is the only actual birth record found for Robert that is consistent with his father’s occupation, his mother’s maiden name, and the birth locations of most of his siblings. Second, Englishmen born abroad frequently lied about the location in order to avoid discrimination. It should be noted that both Coventry and Warwickshire are consistent with where Richard and Euphemia (Thomson) Fairbanks where living when their eldest son John Edward was born in 1862. Robert married Hannah Elizabeth Lowe on 2 Feb 1893 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Hannah (daughter of Samuel Lowe and Maria Chadwick) was born on 9 Apr 1869 in _______, _______, England, United Kingdom; died on 25 Nov 1943 in Melrose, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried after 25 Nov 1943 in Edson Cemetery, Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
|
12. | ![]() ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Consistent with the so-called “birth” entries for her older brothers, 1 Jan 1870 probably refers to Euphemia’s baptism rather than her date of birth. Euphemia married John George Watson in Jun 1889 in Tobercurry, County Sligo, Ireland, United Kingdom. John was born on 29 Jan 1861 in _______, _______, Ireland, United Kingdom; died on 9 Jan 1934 in Chaffey, District of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 11 Jan 1934 in Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Cemetery, Chaffey Township, District of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada. 13. | William Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Fairbanks-1949] notes that one son (unnamed) emigrated to Australia with one of his sisters, and that another son (unnamed) emigrated to South Africa to work the diamond mines. William is probably one of these two unnamed sons. |
14. | Thomas Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Fairbanks-1949] notes that a son, ‘Tom’, emigrated to Canada along with two sisters. Beatrice and Martha, the two youngest sisters, emigrated to Canada in 1913 but where not accompanied by Thomas. He is, however, enumerated in the household of his sister Beatrice and her husband James Thompson in 1921. |
15. | Elizabeth Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Elizabeth Fairbanks is the only child of Richard and Euphemia (Thomson) Fairbanks not accounted for in [Fairbanks-1949]. |
16. | Margaret Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Margaret and her younger sister Beatrice are both listed as being born at ‘Temple House’ in County Sligo. This is probably a reference to ‘Temple House Estate’ near Ballymote, the ancestral home of the Perceval family. |
17. | Beatrice Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Beatrice and her older sister Margaret are both listed as being born at ‘Temple House’ in County Sligo. This is probably a reference to ‘Temple House Estate’ near Ballymote, the ancestral home of the Perceval family. Beatrice married Thomas James Thompson on 26 Nov 1914 in Winnipeg, Province of Manitoba, Canada. Thomas was born about 1889 in _______, _______, Ireland, United Kingdom; died in ? in (unknown). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
|
18. | Martha Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Both Beatrice and Martha Fairbanks listed their ages as about 4 to 5 years younger than they actually were in 1913. In Martha’s case this practice continued at least through the 1921 canadian census. Martha married Henry Bulmer Cassils Maxwell on 7 Jan 1919 in Victoria, Province of Manitoba, Canada. Henry was born about 1882 in _______, Manitoba, Canada; died in ? in (unknown). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
19. | Euphemia Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: In source [QSA-1888a], the eldest daughter John Edward and Elizabeth (Lush) Fairbanks, is listed as “Eliza”. However every other available record from the birth records of all her Australian born siblings to the death records of both her parents record this woman’s name as “Euphemia”—which appears to the name she used throughout her life. |
20. | Ethel Fairbanks ![]() Notes: With only a single exception, [QDoJaAG-1891a] the birth record of the eldest Australian born child of John Edward Fairbanks and Elizabeth (Lush) Fairbanks, Ethel Fairbanks is mentioned in every birth record of her younger siblings. But since Ethel Fairbanks does not appear on the passenger manifest of the Taroba, she may be adopted or a child informally raised by the Fairbanks family as their own. She also appears to have passed away prior to her father’s death in 1938. Coincidentally, an “Ethel Fairbanks” of the same age is listed in the 1901 Irish Census for County Sligo. This Ethel is living with Euphemia (Thomson) Fairbanks and is listed as a niece. |
21. | Lillian Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: In source [QSA-1888a], the second eldest daughter John Edward and Elizabeth (Lush) Fairbanks, is listed as “Mary J”. However every other available record from the birth records of all her Australian born siblings, to her marriage certificate, and including the death records for both of her parents, record this woman’s name as “Lillian”—which appears to the name she used throughout her life. Lillian married Henry John Lear Conley on 17 Apr 1912 in Helidon, Shire of Gatton, Southeast Region, Queensland, Australia. Henry was born about 1887 in Helidon, Tarampa Division, Colony of Queensland; died on 5 Apr 1946 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
|
22. | James Richard Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Glenmore does not exist as a town in the modern district of Toowoomba, but the family of John Edward and Elizabeth (Lush) Fairbanks was probably living in, or around, the Jondaryan settlement in 1889. In December 1891, when James Richard Fairbanks’ birth was registered at Brisbane, John Edward Fairbanks listed himself as living at Koojarawon near Highfields. |
23. | Myra Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Source [QDoJaAG-1972a] notes that Daisy Myra Fairbanks never married. |
24. | John Thomson Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Source [QDoJaAG-1964a] does not state whether John Thomson Fairbanks’ death was accidental, suicide, or the result of his being murdered. |
25. | Margaret Emma Fairbanks ![]() Notes: Moreton West appears to have been part of the historic district of Moreton that, at the time of Margaret Emma Fairbanks’ birth, stretched from Ipswich in the East to the outskirts of Toowoomba in the West. |
26. | Elsie Beatrice Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Moreton West appears to have been part of the historic district of Moreton that, at the time of Elsie Beatrice Fairbanks’ birth, stretched from Ipswich in the East to the outskirts of Toowoomba in the West. Elsie married Colin Paterson on 1 Nov 1934 in Longreach, Shire of Longreach, Central West Region, Queensland, Australia. Colin was born about 1905 in Ascot Vale, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia; died in ? in (unknown). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
27. | Ronald Cooke Fairbanks ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: It is not clear that Ronald Cooke Fairbanks is actually interred with his siblings and parents at Helidon General Cemetery, but there is also no record of his ashes being interred at Mt. Thompson Memorial Gardens in Brisbane. Ronald married Charlotte Laurayne Una Victoreen Miller about 1930 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Charlotte was born in ? in (unknown); died in ? in (unknown). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |

Notes: Florence Martha Fairbanks never married. |
30. | Emily Elizabeth Fairbanks ![]() Notes: [NEHGS-1904b] states that Emily Elizabeth Fairbanks was buried at “East Boston Cemetery”, but this information is not specific enough to identify which contemporary cemetery is being referred to. |

33. | ![]() ![]() Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: In [Ireland-1901b1] this individual’s given name could be read as “May” or “Mary”, but the latter is used because she is listed as “Mary Watson” in source [AoO-1914a]. Mary married Rowland Mosley Tipper on 29 Jul 1914 in All Saints Church, Huntsville, District of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada. Rowland was born on 13 Mar 1887 in Etwell, District of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada; died in ? in (unknown). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
