  • Notes 
    • The 15 Jan 1891 marriage date for John Lawson Herndon and Margaret E Patterson, listed in [Herndon-1950a], is clearly incorrect. Unless all of John Lawson Herndon and Margaret E Patterson’s children were illegitimate, they must have been married about 1870 or 1871. In fact, “15 Jan 1871” corresponds well to the birthdate of their eldest son, William Pickney Herndon. [2, 6]
    • The 1900 US Federal Census lists John Lawson Herndon’s birthdate as “Aug 1850” but this conflicts with the birthdate of his older brother George Wallace Herndon. [2, 7]
    • At the time of the 1900 US Federal Census, a grandson “Horace B Herndon,” was living with John and Margaret Herndon, but it is not know who’s son he was. [7]
    • In [US-1880-1i] and [US-1990-1d] John Lawson Herndon is listed under the name “Lawson Herndon”. [6, 7]
