 #   Notes   Linked to
The original marriage entry from [Nix-2000] reads, “Pine Log, Bartow County, Georgia, Book I, Page 355,” as if it is a source rather than a statement of the marriage location. Additional research is needed. Family: William Wallace Evans / Addie Rosa Bell (F3399)

The original record from _Draper Families in America_ lists John’s death at “Laurenburg”, North Carolina. Laurinburg is the contemporary name for the same place according to USGS. Herndon, John Joseph (I2509)

The reason for Maria’s presence in her father’s home during the enumeration of the 1880 US Federal Census is not known. But if she is the mother of the Bertha Stelow, the grand-daughter who also appears in that enumeration, then it is likely that her husband passed away since: 1) Maria is not listed as “Maria Stelow” and 2) Maria was the only daughter of marriageable age in the mid-1870s. Louisa, the next eldest daughter, is known not to have married until 1882. Koepsel, Maria (I4099)

The record of Lindsey Baker Grice’s family, obtained from the 1850 US Federal Census for Lowndes County, Alabama, is listed under the name “Linny Grico”. Grice, Lindsey Baker (I1121)

The SSDI record for “Murel L Amspoker,” born in 1926 and issued her SSN in Texas corroborates the information found in source [Restland-Memorial-2009a]. Stiles, Murel Lee (I3477)

The status of Gwendaline Marguerite Bennett’s marriage to Wilbur Dean Herndon is not known, but it is likely that they divorced as references are made in [Kirkpatrick-2013] to a number of half-siblings by a second marriage. Family: Wilbur Dean Herndon / Gwendaline Marguerite Bennett (F1497)

The street address in [US-1930-2v] is very difficult to read. Tutein, Herbert Warren (I68)

The style, inscription, and apparent age of James Pearson Calhoun Jr.’s grave marker seem to indicate that he may be buried with his parents at Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Calhoun, James Pearson Jr. (I5443)

The surname as listed in [US-1870-1l] appears to read “Kebsey” or “Koebsey”, but transcription errors were very common in US Federal Census records of that era. Regardless, there is no doubt that this record does refer to August Köpsel and his family. The children match almost exactly with known individuals obtained from family records. Köpsel, Michael Friedrich August (I404)

The surname of Azariah Doane’s wife, as listed in [Holbrook-1987c] is very hard to read. It may be “Polly Lannel” or “Polly Linnel”. However in [Holbrook-1987b], all of the children are listed as being born to “Azariah and Molly Doane”. For this reason, and because the only Linnell birth reference currently available in the Eastham area, is that of “Molly Linnell” the daughter of Jonathan Linnell and Priscilla Gould, the name “Molly Linnell” is used in this database. Linnell, Molly (I1178)

The transcribed obituary for Murel Lee (Stiles) Amspoker found in source [Restland-Memorial-2009a] lists her as being born in Ranger, Eastland County, Texas. Stiles, Murel Lee (I3477)

The Tribune News, Cartersville, Georgia, Thursday, March 3, 1927 Family: William Clarence Butler / Rosa Pearl Evans (F3396)

The USGS - Geographic Names Information System has no reference to a modern city or town named “Jersey City” in Illinois. This may be a reference to “Jerseyville, Jersey County”. Draper, William (I2162)

The USGS GNIS has no reference to a “Yorkville”, South Carolina, but York, York County, South Carolina is supposed to occupy the same location. Mealer, Elizabeth (I2253)

The vital record images in [Holbrook-1987b] do not actually show Azariah Doane’s birth place. LDS-IGI lists “Orleans, Barnstable County,” but searches of vital records, so far, do not support this fact. Doane, Azariah (I1173)

The vital record images in [Holbrook-1987b] do not actually show Eliza Doane’s birth place. LDS-IGI lists “Orleans, Barnstable County,” but searches of vital records, so far, do not support this fact. Doane, Eliza (I1176)

The vital record images in [Holbrook-1987b] do not actually show Heman Doane’s birth place. LDS-IGI lists “Orleans, Barnstable County,” but searches of vital records, so far, do not support this fact. Doane, Heman (I1171)

The vital record images in [Holbrook-1987b] do not actually show Polly Doane’s birth place. LDS-IGI lists “Orleans, Barnstable County,” but searches of vital records, so far, do not support this fact. Doane, Polly (I1175)

The vital record images in [Holbrook-1987b] do not actually show Seth Doane’s birth place. LDS-IGI lists “Orleans, Barnstable County,” but searches of vital records, so far, do not support this fact. Doane, Seth (I1172)

The vital record images in [Holbrook-1987b] do not actually show Tamsen Doane’s birth place. LDS-IGI lists “Orleans, Barnstable County,” but searches of vital records, so far, do not support this fact. Doane, Tamsen (I1174)

The _Birth and Death Record for Meeker County, Minnesota_ lists the parents of Margarie McGinley as “Daniel” and “Margaret Logan”. I have assumed that Daniel’s last name was McGinley since Margarie is often referred to by that surname, but there is no conclusive proof of this usage. McGinley, Margaret (I640)

The ‘Household Examination’ from source [GID-1857a] appears to have been taken in 1857 with the entry for Hans Olson being added to the record in 1860. Persson, Ola (I300)

The ‘Household Examination’ from source [GID-1857a] appears to have been taken in 1857 with the entry for Hans Olson being added to the record in 1860. Mårtensdotter, Hanna (I5100)

The “South Burial Ground” is probably a reference to the South End Burial Ground opened in 1810 which was known as the, “working man’s burial ground”. Stacy, Philemon (I4984)

There are at least 2 “James M” or “James N” Calhouns, born in 1842/43 living in or around Adair and Wayne counties in Kentucky in 1850 - 1870. The first, James M Calhoun son of Andrew John (A J) and Catherine Calhoun, is initially noted in the 1850 US Federal Census for Wayne County. But this James Calhoun is also noted as still living with his parents in the 1870 census. By 1870, our James Marion Calhoun was already married to Sarah Elizabeth Turpin, and is referenced in [US-1870-1d]. Moreover, our James M Calhoun lists his birth place as Adair County, Kentucky. So I believe that our James Calhoun is the son of James T and Elizabeth Calhoun who were living in the 2nd District, Adair County in both 1850 and 1860. Calhoun, James Marion (I3300)

There are dual Massachusetts marriage index entries for Albert Jules Fitzgibbon and Emma Tutein, one for Cambridge, Middlesex County and one for Somerville, Middlesex County. Until the actual marriage entries can be obtained, this database will use the former. Family: Albert Jules Fitzgibbon / Emma Tutein (F1716)

There are dual Massachusetts marriage index entries for Almon Tutein and Gertrude E Bruning, one for Belmont, Middlesex County and one for Malden, Middlesex County. Until the actual marriage entries can be obtained, this database will use the former. Family: Almon Tutein / Bruning Gertrude E (F1719)

There are many individuals named “Euphemia Thomson” in the 1861 Scotland Census. However the individual listed in [Scotland-1861a] is named “Euphima Fairbanks”. Since this census was taken only 6 months after the marriage of Richard Fairbanks and Euphemia Thomson, it is plausible that she was enumerated with her family. Consequently, the connection to the family of John and Margaret Thomson is well supported. Thomson, Euphemia (I39)

There are many locations named “Caddo” in the United States. The marriage location for James Pinckney Herndon and Amelia McCaulley probably refers to the Oklahoma Indian Territory because James Pinckney Herndon would have had numerous cousins in the area in the late 1800’s. Herndon, James Pinckney (I2284)

There are multiple burial references for John Alford Stiles. One has him buried at Pleasant View Cemetery, Fayetteville, Lincoln County, Tennessee. However there is no first hand evidence of a grave site or marker. More likely, John Alford Stiles is buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Vanntown, Lincoln County, Tennessee, located on the site of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Pleasant Hill Cemetery is where his second wife Sarah Catherine McDaniel is buried, and John Alford Stiles was married to Sarah for almost 35 years. Stiles, John Alford (I3325)

There are three Tennessee locations named “Laurel Hill,” in Chester, De Kalb, and Lawrence counties. It is not known which of these was the birth place of Louvena Calloway Presley. Presley, Louvena Calloway (I3294)

There are two Stiles cemeteries in Lincoln County USGS lists Stiles Cemetery (350807N, 0862514W) as being closer to Kelso. The other cemetery is referred to in this database as “Stiles-Jennings Cemetery”. Stiles, Elizabeth C (I3328)

There are two Stiles cemeteries in Lincoln County [USGS] lists Stiles Cemetery (350807N, 0862514W) as being closer to Kelso. The other cemetery is referred to in this database as “Stiles-Jennings Cemetery”. Stiles, Mary Lavinia (I3321)

There is an Eastman family rumor that a daughter of Warren and Rachel Young (Cole) Eastman was living in California at the time of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and was not heard from again afterwards. Given that [NHBoVR-1898a2] indicates that John Albert Nelson Jr.’s mother was living in California at the time of his 2nd marriage and that no other Eastman children were ever recorded as living in California, Emily “Emma” Ann Eastman may have been that lost daughter. Eastman, Emily Ann (I1122)

There is considerable confusion about how Orville E Vandegrift spelled his surname. Most sources have a variation of Vandegrift or the more traditional Van de Grift. The one spelling that seems be be obviously incorrect is “Vandergriff” as listed in [Anderson-1964]. Vandegrift, Orville E (I2101)

There is considerable confusion about where James W Eastman and Mabel M Dean were married due to the fact that the marriage was recorded in three different Massachusetts localities. Examination of [NEGHS-1884a] and [Townsend-1884a] (two of the three existing records), shows that the marriage was registered in Townsend (James’ residence at the time) on 2 July 1884. The couple was married at Pepperell, Middlesex County, a small town near Townsend, on 22 July 1884, and that the marriage was also recorded at Taunton, Bristol County (Mabel’s residence just before the marriage). Family: James Warren Eastman / Mabel Maria Deane (F141)

There is considerable confusion regarding Lucia E Killips. Bonnell family sources refer to this woman as “Lucia Phillips”, but careful examination of [FondduLac-1864] reveals that, in fact, the family name is indeed “Killips”. Moreover, it appears that the first name, “Lucia”, may have been a nickname that she used only in adulthood. In [US-1860-1p] Lucia E Killips is listed as “Sarah E Killips”, and [US-1850-1n] as “Lucy”. Killips, Lucia E (I676)

There is considerable confusion regarding Robert F. Stiles’ wife’s maiden name. Source [Stratton-2002b] lists “Delia Cordelia Franklin”. While source [Stiles-Cemetery-1884a] lists “Fandelia Canzadie Franklin”, which happens to conflict with the gravesite photo itself. The grave marker is inscribed with the name “Delia Canzadie Franklin”. Franklin, Delia C (I3669)

There is considerable confusion regarding this individual’s name. Bonnell family sources use the name “Anna Katherine Schaeffer”. However a first name of “Anna” is only supported by a single post marriage census record. In all pre-marriage census records, as well as in [WHS-1872a], a variant of “Catherine”, without Anna, is used. In the birth records of her children, she is sometimes listed as “Elsie” or “Mary”. Schaefer, Catherine (I1148)

There is no modern town called “Teel” in New Mexico. This probably refers to the area at the north end of the Mimbres Valley where there was a US Post Office. Masten, Merlin Douglas (I119)

There is no modern town or city of “Cass” in Bartow County, Georgia. This is probably a reference to the unincorporated community of “Cassville”. Smith, John Lewis Jr (I4391)

There is no modern town or village in Cherokee County, Georgia named “Salacoa”. This is probably a reference to the old indian village of the same name or to the Salacoa Valley. Langford, Thomas Ludwell (I2341)

There is no question that source [NHBoVR-1893b] refers to Frederick Warren Eastman since it explicitly states that the individual is the 5th of James Warren and Mabel Maria (Deane) Eastman’s children. Eastman, Frederick Warren (I211)

There is no question that the individual referred to in [NCSA-1975a] is the 3rd son of Frank L. Eldridge and Rachel Frances “Lettie” (Eastman) Eldridge. A “Rachael Eastman” is referred to directly in this source as the mother of the deceased. Eldridge, Frank Clifford (I4223)

There is no record of a “Myrtle Johnson,” the daughter of Otto F and Clara Johnson. She does not appear in any US Federal census records from 1910, 1920, or 1930. Johnson, Myrtle (I569)

There is no town in Lamar County, Texas named “Shiloh”. Given the location in Louisiana of James Augustus and Flora Gertrude (Bradford) Herndon’s family in the late 1800s, it is more likely that Ina Langford Herndon was born near Shiloh, Gregg County, Texas. Herndon, Ina Langford (I2653)

There is no town in Lamar County, Texas named “Shiloh”. Given the location in Louisiana of James Augustus and Flora Gertrude (Bradford) Herndon’s family in the late 1800s, it is more likely that Mattie Delena Herndon was born near Shiloh, Gregg County, Texas. Herndon, Mattie Delena (I2652)

Theuria’s parents were Christopher and Anna (Klien) Adler. Adler, Theuria (I5226)

This child of Hans Nilsson (aka Hans N Lindell) and Christine (Ornberg) Lindell is not present in any historical from 1885 on. Consequently it is assumed she died as a child. Lindell, Mary (I2373)

This child probably died before reaching adulthood and possibly as an infant since it is not mentioned in any other records. Lindell, (unknown) (I2366)
