Two of Rachel Young Cole’s siblings, Harriet and Solomon were living in the Eastman home in Chelsea at the time of the enumeration of the 1860 US Federal census.

Rachel Young Cole moved to Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire (presumably with her husband) in 1885.

At the time of the enumerations of the 1900 and 1910 US Federal censuses, Rachel Young (Cole) Eastman was living in the household of her daughter and son-in-law, Annie (Eastman) and Silas S. Manwaring, in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

Rachel Young (Cole) Eastman passed away at 30 Lincoln Street, Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Silas S. and Annie (Eastman) Manwaring.

Rachel married Warren Eastman on 10 Jun 1849 in Quincy, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Warren (son of John Eastman and Betsey Day) was born on 19 May 1821 in Parsonsfield, York County, Maine, United States; died on 9 Jan 1908 in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States; was buried on 11 Jan 1908 in Exeter Cemetery, Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

“10 Mar 1849” and “Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts”, derived from [LDS-IGI-1982c], are probably references to the date and location of Warren and Rachel’s registration of their intention to marry... not their actual marriage.

[NEHGS-1849a] does not actually state that Warren Eastman and Rachel Young Cole were married in Quincy, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, but the location is assumed due to the following: Rachel and Warren were residents of Chelsea at the time; the marriage was registered in Quincy, and the officiating pastor was also from Quincy.

A 64 year old “Elisabeth Peirce” is living in the Cole household in Wellfleet in 1860. This may be an aunt of Sabra Doane (Pierce) Cole.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Daniel Cole was born on 2 Aug 1783 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States (son of Daniel Cole and Susanna Collings); died on 1 Jan 1864 in Truro, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Occupation: Seaman
    • Cause of Death: “Consumption” (tuberculosis)
    • Residence: May 1805, Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States

    Notes:

The connection of this Daniel Cole to the family of Daniel Cole and Susanna Collings is supported by [NEHGS-1864d] which notes that Daniel’s parents were “Daniel and Susie”.

Daniel married Polly Atwood Snow on 19 May 1805 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. Polly (daughter of Joseph Snow and Rebecca Young) was born on 29 Jun 1785 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; died on 12 May 1836 in (unknown); was buried after 12 May 1836 in Duck Creek Cemetery, Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Polly Atwood Snow was born on 29 Jun 1785 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States (daughter of Joseph Snow and Rebecca Young); died on 12 May 1836 in (unknown); was buried after 12 May 1836 in Duck Creek Cemetery, Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Residence: May 1805, Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States

    Notes:

Due mostly to the listing found in [Holbrook-1805a], this individual has been incorrectly identified as “Polly Atwood” by hundreds of researchers. But [Holbrook-1805b], the marriage intention filed by Daniel Cole and Polly in February of that same year, lists Polly’s full maiden name, as “Polly Atwood Snow”. Polly Atwood Snow was the daughter of Joseph and Rebecca (Young) Snow of Wellfleet, and there is ample additional evidence to indicate that Daniel Cole’s wife was, indeed, Polly Atwood Snow, rather than one of the many women from Cape Cod named Polly Atwood. First, two of their children were given the middle name “Snow” (Polly’s father’s side of the family). Second, one child was given the middle name “Young” (Polly’s mother’s side of the family). Third, Daniel Cole’s wife died in 1836 at the age of 51—putting her birth year near 1785, the same as our Ms. Snow.

    Notes:

In the marriage intention recorded by the Clerk of Barnstable County, Polly Atwood is listed as “Polly Atwood Snow”. Due to her age at the time of her marriage to Daniel Cole, this would seem to cast doubt that her maiden name was actually Atwood.

    Children:
    1. John Young Cole was born on 27 Jan 1806 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; died on 8 Feb 1807 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States.

    3. 2. Nehemiah Cole was born on 31 May 1810 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; died on 11 Jun 1856 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried after 11 Jun 1856 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States.

  3. 6.  Solomon Peirce was born on 15 Jun 1775 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay (son of Samuel Peirce and Mercy Peirce); died in ? in (unknown).

    Notes:

Note the spelling change for the surname of the children of Solomon Peirce and Keziah Doane.

Solomon married Keziah Doane on 18 Apr 1799 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. Keziah (daughter of Azariah Doane and Molly Linnell) was born on 2 Oct 1785 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; was christened on 8 Apr 1787 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; died in ? in (unknown). Notes:

LDS-IGI incorrectly lists Keziah’s birth at Orleans, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Residence: Nov 1771, Truro, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay

    Notes:

The date listed in [Holbrook-1772c] for Daniel Cole’s marriage to Susanna Collings may be 2 Apr 1772, but is very difficult to read.

    Children:
    1. Elisha Cole was born on 4 Jun 1775 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay; died on 25 Jul 1796 in (unknown).
    2. Andrew Cole was born on 29 Jun 1777 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; died in ?.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Residence: Feb 1775, Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay

Joseph married Rebecca Young on 9 Feb 1775 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay. 4. 11.  Rebecca Young was born on 18 Oct 1756 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay (daughter of Jonathan Young and Rebecca Young); died in ? in (unknown).

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Residence: Feb 1775, Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay

    Notes:

A second Rebecca Young exists, born in 1759 to Thomas and Mary Young of Barnstable. But this Rebecca Young appears to have married Dr. John Young in 1776, and in their marriage intention record, although very hard to read, at least one of the individuals appears to has listed themselves as, “…of Eastham”. Consequently, the evidence that our Rebecca Young is the daughter of Jonathan and Rebecca Young of Wellfleet is more likely.

    Children:
    1. Samuel Snow was born on 20 Oct 1775 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay; died in ? in (unknown).
    2. Sally Snow was born on 18 Jan 1779 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; died in ? in (unknown).

  5. 12.  Samuel Peirce was born in ? in (unknown); died in ? in (unknown).

Samuel married Mercy Peirce before 1769 in (unknown). Mercy was born in ? in (unknown); died in ? in (unknown). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  6. 13.  Mercy Peirce was born in ? in (unknown); died in ? in (unknown).

    Notes:

“Peirce” is Mercy’s married name. Her maiden name is not known but may have been “Ryder” or “Rider,” according to LDS IGI sources.

    Notes:

LDS International Genealogical Index (IGI) lists 3 other children of Samuel Peirce and Mercy Ryder. These are Molly Pierce (b. abt 1780), Lucy Pierce (b. abt 1782), and Elizabeth Pierce (b. abt 1784). IGI lists no source information for these individuals and none of the Wellfleet vital record collections has no record of these three girls.

    Children:
    1. David Peirce was born on 31 Aug 1769 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay; died in ? in (unknown).

Azariah married Molly Linnell on 30 Dec 1784 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. Molly (daughter of Jonathan Linnell and Priscilla Gould) was born on 28 Feb 1759 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay; died in ?. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  8. 15.  Molly Linnell was born on 28 Feb 1759 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay (daughter of Jonathan Linnell and Priscilla Gould); died in ?.

    Notes:

The surname of Azariah Doane’s wife, as listed in [Holbrook-1987c] is very hard to read. It may be “Polly Lannel” or “Polly Linnel”. However in [Holbrook-1987b], all of the children are listed as being born to “Azariah and Molly Doane”. For this reason, and because the only Linnell birth reference currently available in the Eastham area, is that of “Molly Linnell” the daughter of Jonathan Linnell and Priscilla Gould, the name “Molly Linnell” is used in this database.

    Children:
    1. 7. Keziah Doane was born on 2 Oct 1785 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; was christened on 8 Apr 1787 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; died in ? in (unknown).
