[Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

[NEHGS-1881e] does not actually state that William Franklin Tutein and Harriet Cole Eastman were at Chelsea, Suffolk County, but since both were living in Chelsea at the time and the Justice of the Peace who officiated was also from Chelsea, it is a reasonable assumption.

    Notes:

[Exeter-1908a] and [Exeter-1908] both state that Warren Eastman was the son of John Eastman and Betsey Day of Parsonsfield, York County, Maine, but to date no records have been found to substantiate this. Moreover, LDS IGI has a complete listing of children of John Eastman, and no Warren is listed. It may be the case that Jeremiah Eastman (an elder son of John) and Warren Eastman, are the same man.

[Exeter-1908a] lists Warren Eastman’s age at death as, “87 years, 8 months, 21 days.” This makes his birth date 19 Apr 1820. However, [Exeter-1908] and [NHBoVR-1908a1] both list Warren Eastman’s age at death as “86 years, 7 months, 21 days,” making his birth date 19 (20) May 1821. The May 1821 date also agrees with census records from sources [US-1880-1f] and [US-1900-1b]. Thus, the 1821 date is used.

Warren Eastman moved to Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire (presumably with his wife) in 1885.

At the time of the enumeration of the 1900 US Federal census, Warren Eastman was living in the household of his daughter, Annie (Eastman) Manwaring, in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

    Notes:

Two of Rachel Young Cole’s siblings, Harriet and Solomon were living in the Eastman home in Chelsea at the time of the enumeration of the 1860 US Federal census.

Rachel Young Cole moved to Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire (presumably with her husband) in 1885.

At the time of the enumerations of the 1900 and 1910 US Federal censuses, Rachel Young (Cole) Eastman was living in the household of her daughter and son-in-law, Annie (Eastman) and Silas S. Manwaring, in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

    Notes:

“10 Mar 1849” and “Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts”, derived from [LDS-IGI-1982c], are probably references to the date and location of Warren and Rachel’s registration of their intention to marry... not their actual marriage.

[NEHGS-1849a] does not actually state that Warren Eastman and Rachel Young Cole were married in Quincy, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, but the location is assumed due to the following: Rachel and Warren were residents of Chelsea at the time; the marriage was registered in Quincy, and the officiating pastor was also from Quincy.

    • Occupation: Seaman
    • Cause of Death: “Consumption” (tuberculosis)
    • Residence: May 1805, Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States

The connection of this Daniel Cole to the family of Daniel Cole and Susanna Collings is supported by [NEHGS-1864d] which notes that Daniel’s parents were “Daniel and Susie”.

Daniel married Polly Atwood Snow on 19 May 1805 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. Polly (daughter of Joseph Snow and Rebecca Young) was born on 29 Jun 1785 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; died on 12 May 1836 in (unknown); was buried after 12 May 1836 in Duck Creek Cemetery, Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. Other Events and Attributes:

    • Residence: May 1805, Wellfleet, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States

    Notes:

Due mostly to the listing found in [Holbrook-1805a], this individual has been incorrectly identified as “Polly Atwood” by hundreds of researchers. But [Holbrook-1805b], the marriage intention filed by Daniel Cole and Polly in February of that same year, lists Polly’s full maiden name, as “Polly Atwood Snow”. Polly Atwood Snow was the daughter of Joseph and Rebecca (Young) Snow of Wellfleet, and there is ample additional evidence to indicate that Daniel Cole’s wife was, indeed, Polly Atwood Snow, rather than one of the many women from Cape Cod named Polly Atwood. First, two of their children were given the middle name “Snow” (Polly’s father’s side of the family). Second, one child was given the middle name “Young” (Polly’s mother’s side of the family). Third, Daniel Cole’s wife died in 1836 at the age of 51—putting her birth year near 1785, the same as our Ms. Snow.

    Notes:

In the marriage intention recorded by the Clerk of Barnstable County, Polly Atwood is listed as “Polly Atwood Snow”. Due to her age at the time of her marriage to Daniel Cole, this would seem to cast doubt that her maiden name was actually Atwood.

    Children:
