    • Census: 10 Jun 1880, 3rd Ward, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States

    Notes:

Since Oscar A Bonnell does not appear with his wife and children in [US-1900-1l1], it is assumed that he died before June of 1900.

Oscar married Lucia E Killips on 22 Jun 1864 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. Lucia (daughter of John B McKillips and Lucy Gant) was born in Dec 1842 in _______, _______, Vermont, United States; died after May 1926 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried after May 1926 in Rienza Cemetery, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. • Census: 28 Jan 1920, Ward 4, Fond du Lac City, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States

    Notes:

There is considerable confusion regarding Lucia E Killips. Bonnell family sources refer to this woman as “Lucia Phillips”, but careful examination of [FondduLac-1864] reveals that, in fact, the family name is indeed “Killips”. Moreover, it appears that the first name, “Lucia”, may have been a nickname that she used only in adulthood. In [US-1860-1p] Lucia E Killips is listed as “Sarah E Killips”, and [US-1850-1n] as “Lucy”.

Lucia E (Bonnell) Killips was living in her daughter’s household in 1920.

    Residence:
    37 Union Street

    Residence:
    163 Ruggle Street

    Notes:

A “George W Killips” witnessed the marriage of Oscar A Bonnell and Lucia E Killips. This is probably her older brother.

    Children:
    1. 2. Frederick John Bonnell was born in May 1865 in _______, _______, Wisconsin, United States; died in 1926 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried in 1926 in Rienza Cemetery, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States.
    2. Hertilla A Bonnell was born in May 1867 in _______, _______, Wisconsin, United States; died in ? in (unknown).

  3. 6.  Casper Hoffman was born in Jul 1848 in _______, _______, Kingdom of Bavaria (son of Johann Hoffman and Catharina Rosenbaum); died after Jan 1920 in (unknown).

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Occupation: Blacksmith
    • Occupation: Brewery Worker
    • Emigration: Abt 1853, _______, _______, Kingdom of Bavaria
    • Census: 19 Jun 1860, Marshfield, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States
    • Census: 12 Jul 1870, Town of Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States
    • Census: 11 Jun 1880, 5th Ward, City of Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States
    • Census: 12 Jun 1900, 3rd Ward, Mayville City, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States
    • Census: 29 Apr 1910, Third Ward, City of Mayville, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States
    • Census: 24 Jan 1920, Hubbard Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States

    Notes:

Additional research is required to determine conclusively that Casper Hoffman was the son of John and Catherine Hoffman. Although the small number of Hoffman’s in central Wisconsin at the time, indicates that this is actually the case.

Marshfield, Wisconsin is now part of Marathon County.

Casper Hoffman, along with his parents and siblings, must have emigrated from Bavaria in 1853 as his younger sister, Mary, was born at sea.

Casper married Catherine Schaefer on 9 Jan 1872 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. Catherine (daughter of Joseph Schaefer and Maria Agnes Henschenmacher) was born in Aug 1850 in _______, _______, Wisconsin, United States; died after Jan 1920 in (unknown). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 7.  Catherine Schaefer was born in Aug 1850 in _______, _______, Wisconsin, United States (daughter of Joseph Schaefer and Maria Agnes Henschenmacher); died after Jan 1920 in (unknown).

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Census: 20 Jul 1860, Town of Lamartine, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States
    • Census: 29 Jun 1870, Metomen, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States
    • Census: 11 Jun 1880, 5th Ward, City of Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States
    • Census: 12 Jun 1900, 3rd Ward, Mayville City, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States
    • Census: 29 Apr 1910, Third Ward, City of Mayville, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States
    • Census: 24 Jan 1920, Hubbard Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States

    Notes:

[US-1900-1k] notes that Catherine (Schaefer) Hoffman was the mother of 12 children of which 10 were still alive in 1900. Since only 5 are enumerated in 1880 and an additional 4 in 1900, there must be 3 children (1 living, 2 deceased in 1900) that are not accounted for in this database.

There is considerable confusion regarding this individual’s name. Bonnell family sources use the name “Anna Katherine Schaeffer”. However a first name of “Anna” is only supported by a single post marriage census record. In all pre-marriage census records, as well as in [WHS-1872a], a variant of “Catherine”, without Anna, is used. In the birth records of her children, she is sometimes listed as “Elsie” or “Mary”.

Catherine Schaefer was a domestic servant in the household of Almond and Augusta Osborn during the enumeration of the 1870 US Federal Census.

    Notes:

Casper’s younger brother, Andreas, and Catherine’s younger sister, Elizabeth, witnessed their marriage in 1872.

    • Census: 12 Jun 1880, Village of Winneconne, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States

    Notes:

“St. Johns, Lower Canada,” is exactly how John B. McKillips residence was recorded at the time of his marriage to Lucy Gant, but there are a number of problems with this location. First, Saint John’s, the modern capital of Newfoundland and Labrador, was never part of the Province of Lower Canada. Second, Saint John’s is a tremendous distance from Vermont. It is possible that whomever wrote out the ‘Marriage Groom’ card for John. americanized the town of Saint Jean sur Richelieu which lies between the Vermont-Canada border and Montreal. A birth certificate should be sought.

John married Lucy Gant on 4 Jul 1830 in Middlebury, Addison County, Vermont, United States. Lucy was born about 1810 in _______, _______, Vermont, United States; died before 1870 in _______, _______, Wisconsin, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

Louisa (“Lucy”) Killips does not appear in the 1870 US federal census records, and John B Killips lists himself as widowed in 1880. Therefore, it’s likely that Louisa died before 1870.
