    • Census: 10 Jan 1920, Ward 2, Portsmouth City, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States

    Notes:

Eliza Ann Eastman is not referenced in any sources after the enumeration of the 1870 US Federal census. Likewise, Ida A Eastman, is not referenced in any sources before her marriage to Walter C Harvey in 1876. Furthermore, [Tutein-1978] lists 8 children of Warren and Rachel Young (Cole) Eastman who lived to adulthood, and Eliza is not among them. Consequently, since Tutein descendants only knew Eliza by the nickname that she used throughout her adult life, “Ida”, and since Ida (Eastman-Harvey) Pettigrew was known to have been born in Aug of 1858, Ida and Eliza must be the same individual.

[NHBoVR-1942a] indicates that, until 3 days before her death, Eliza (“Ida”) Anne (Eastman-Harvey) Pettigrew was a resident of Portsmouth, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, and that Eliza’s death was reported by her son from her first marriage, Arthur S. Harvey.

Eliza “Ida” Ann (Eastman-Harvey) Pettigrew and her husband John were living in the household of Ida’s younger son by her first marriage at the time of the enumeration of the 1920 US Federal Census.

    Residence:
    71 Middle Street

    Residence:
    1 Chauncey Street

    Residence:
    180 Willard Avenue

    Notes:

[NEHGS-1876a] does not actually state that Ida A Eastman and Walter C Harvey were married in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, but given that they were both living in Chelsea at the time, their marriage was registered in Chelsea and in no other municipality, and that the minister who married them was from Chelsea, it is safe to assume that they did indeed marry in Chelsea.

    Children:
    1. George W Harvey was born on 1 May 1877 in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States; died on 18 Oct 1909 in Concord, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, United States; was buried on 20 Oct 1909 in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States.

    • Residence: Jun 1880, Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States
    • Census: 9 Jun 1880, Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States
    • Residence: Jun 1900, Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States
    • Census: 16 Jun 1900, Exeter Town, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States
    • Residence: Jan 1908, Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States

    Notes:

[Exeter-1908a] and [Exeter-1908] both state that Warren Eastman was the son of John Eastman and Betsey Day of Parsonsfield, York County, Maine, but to date no records have been found to substantiate this. Moreover, LDS IGI has a complete listing of children of John Eastman, and no Warren is listed. It may be the case that Jeremiah Eastman (an elder son of John) and Warren Eastman, are the same man.

[Exeter-1908a] lists Warren Eastman’s age at death as, “87 years, 8 months, 21 days.” This makes his birth date 19 Apr 1820. However, [Exeter-1908] and [NHBoVR-1908a1] both list Warren Eastman’s age at death as “86 years, 7 months, 21 days,” making his birth date 19 (20) May 1821. The May 1821 date also agrees with census records from sources [US-1880-1f] and [US-1900-1b]. Thus, the 1821 date is used.

Warren Eastman moved to Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire (presumably with his wife) in 1885.

At the time of the enumeration of the 1900 US Federal census, Warren Eastman was living in the household of his daughter, Annie (Eastman) Manwaring, in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

    • Census: 13 Apr 1910, Exeter Town, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States
    • Residence: Jan 1916, Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States

    Notes:

Two of Rachel Young Cole’s siblings, Harriet and Solomon were living in the Eastman home in Chelsea at the time of the enumeration of the 1860 US Federal census.

Rachel Young Cole moved to Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire (presumably with her husband) in 1885.

At the time of the enumerations of the 1900 and 1910 US Federal censuses, Rachel Young (Cole) Eastman was living in the household of her daughter and son-in-law, Annie (Eastman) and Silas S. Manwaring, in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

Rachel Young (Cole) Eastman passed away at 30 Lincoln Street, Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Silas S. and Annie (Eastman) Manwaring.

    Residence:
    30 Lincoln Street

    Notes:

“10 Mar 1849” and “Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts”, derived from [LDS-IGI-1982c], are probably references to the date and location of Warren and Rachel’s registration of their intention to marry... not their actual marriage.

[NEHGS-1849a] does not actually state that Warren Eastman and Rachel Young Cole were married in Quincy, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, but the location is assumed due to the following: Rachel and Warren were residents of Chelsea at the time; the marriage was registered in Quincy, and the officiating pastor was also from Quincy.
