2. | James Marion Calhoun was born on 28 Jan 1843 in _______, Adair County, Kentucky, United States (son of James T Calhoun and Elizabeth Calhoun); died on 1 Feb 1915 in (unknown); was buried after 1 Feb 1915 in Highland Cemetery, Durant, Bryan County, Oklahoma, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: There are at least 2 “James M” or “James N” Calhouns, born in 1842/43 living in or around Adair and Wayne counties in Kentucky in 1850 - 1870. The first, James M Calhoun son of Andrew John (A J) and Catherine Calhoun, is initially noted in the 1850 US Federal Census for Wayne County. But this James Calhoun is also noted as still living with his parents in the 1870 census. By 1870, our James Marion Calhoun was already married to Sarah Elizabeth Turpin, and is referenced in [US-1870-1d]. Moreover, our James M Calhoun lists his birth place as Adair County, Kentucky. So I believe that our James Calhoun is the son of James T and Elizabeth Calhoun who were living in the 2nd District, Adair County in both 1850 and 1860. James married Sarah Elizabeth Turpin about 1868 in _______, _______, Kentucky, United States. Sarah (daughter of James Turpin and Martha Ann Turpin) was born on 1 Mar 1850 in _______, _______, Kentucky, United States; died on 28 Jul 1930 in (unknown); was buried after 28 Jul 1930 in Highland Cemetery, Durant, Bryan County, Oklahoma, United States. 3. | Sarah Elizabeth Turpin was born on 1 Mar 1850 in _______, _______, Kentucky, United States (daughter of James Turpin and Martha Ann Turpin); died on 28 Jul 1930 in (unknown); was buried after 28 Jul 1930 in Highland Cemetery, Durant, Bryan County, Oklahoma, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Grayson,1942a] has Sarah Elizabeth Turpin being born in Adair County, Kentucky in 1850, but considering the Turpin family’s presence in Wayne County 1850, this is extremely unlikely. It is more likely that Rebecca (Bradley) Calhoun, the filer of Tennie May Calhoun’s probate birth certificate, didn’t know the birth places of her sister-in-law’s parents and simply listed Adair County, the last location in Kentucky where they where know to have lived. LDS IGI records, on the other hand, have a listing for a “Sarah E Turpin,” born to James and Martha in Wayne County, in 1849.
