Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Robert F Stiles was born in 1853 in Kelso, Lincoln County, Tennessee, United States (son of James Stiles and Mary Ann Taylor); died on 6 Oct 1883 in Kelso, Lincoln County, Tennessee, United States; was buried after 6 Oct 1883 in Stiles Cemetery, near Kelso, Lincoln County, Tennessee, United States.

    Notes:

Sources [Stiles-1999] (which is probably based on [Stiles-Cemetery-1884a]) have birth in 1853. Sources [LDS-AF-2002a] and [Stratton-2002b] have birth in 1856. In addition, source [Stiles-Cemetery-1884a] lists death (unsubstantiated) at Smithland, Lincoln County, Tennessee.

Robert married Delia C Franklin on 29 Jun 1876 in _______, Lincoln County, Tennessee, United States. Delia was born on 8 Feb 1856 in _______, Lincoln County, Tennessee, United States; died on 3 Oct 1884 in Kelso, Lincoln County, Tennessee, United States; was buried after 3 Oct 1884 in Stiles Cemetery, near Kelso, Lincoln County, Tennessee, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Delia C Franklin was born on 8 Feb 1856 in _______, Lincoln County, Tennessee, United States; died on 3 Oct 1884 in Kelso, Lincoln County, Tennessee, United States; was buried after 3 Oct 1884 in Stiles Cemetery, near Kelso, Lincoln County, Tennessee, United States.

    Notes:

Source [Stratton-2002b] (probably based on [Stiles-Cemetery-1884a]) has a death date of 3 October 1884. Source [Stiles-1999] has a death date of 3 August 1884.

There is considerable confusion regarding Robert F. Stiles’ wife’s maiden name. Source [Stratton-2002b] lists “Delia Cordelia Franklin”. While source [Stiles-Cemetery-1884a] lists “Fandelia Canzadie Franklin”, which happens to conflict with the gravesite photo itself. The grave marker is inscribed with the name “Delia Canzadie Franklin”.

Delia C. Franklin was the daughter of John W. and Delphia Ann (Fanning) Franklin.

    Notes:

[LDS-AF-2002a] lists death at Cedar Bluff, Tennessee (with burial at Cedar Bluff Cemetery) but this conflicts with [Stiles-Cemetery-1875a] which convincingly places burial at Stiles Cemetery in Lincoln County, Tennessee.

[LDS-AF-1999f] and [Stratton-2002b] list James Stiles’ birth place as merely “Laurens, S.c.” It is not known if he was actually born in the town of Laurens.

    Notes:

The first 9 children of John Stiles and Margaret Lynch (Aaron, John R, John (?), Francis Seaborn, James, William Jesse, Margaret, and Jane) were all born in Laurens (Laurens County, South Carolina). Sometime between the birth of Jane in 1816 and the birth of Samuel in 1821 the family moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee.
