2. | Nicholas Rauls was born on 13 Oct 1858 in Berry, Dane County, Wisconsin, United States (son of Mathias Rauls and Elizabeth Meyer); died on 29 Dec 1942 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried on 2 Jan 1943 in Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: In June 1880, Nicholas Rauls was a servant in the household of Ambrose and Kunigunde Bronner. Nicholas married Louisa Augusta Koepsel on 23 Dec 1882 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. Louisa (daughter of Michael Friedrich August Köpsel and Carolina Dorothea Ulrica Budahn) was born on 10 Jun 1862 in Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States; died on 16 Aug 1946 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried on 19 Aug 1946 in Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. 3. | Louisa Augusta Koepsel was born on 10 Jun 1862 in Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States (daughter of Michael Friedrich August Köpsel and Carolina Dorothea Ulrica Budahn); died on 16 Aug 1946 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried on 19 Aug 1946 in Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [US-1870-1l] lists this individual’s first name as “Augusta” but with a birthdate that appoximates the verified birthdate of “Louisa A Koepsel”. Consequently, it is assumed that the “A” stood for “Augusta” and that Louisa as she got older began to prefer Louisa.

4. | Mathias Rauls was born on 4 Dec 1817 in Trier, Rhine Province, Kingdom of Prussia; died on 30 Aug 1902 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried in Sep 1902 in Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [US-1870-1f] has Mathias’ name as “Matthias Raulz,” a common spelling for that surname. Mathias + Elizabeth Meyer. Elizabeth was born about 1819 in _______, _______, Kingdom of Prussia; died before 1875 in _______, _______, Wisconsin, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
5. | Elizabeth Meyer was born about 1819 in _______, _______, Kingdom of Prussia; died before 1875 in _______, _______, Wisconsin, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: The emigration date of 1856 for Elizabeth is inferred from the fact that she and Matthias were already married (with 4 children) at the time of their emigration from Prussia.

6. | Michael Friedrich August Köpsel was born on 1 Dec 1823 in Dannenberg, Wollin Parish, Pomerania, Kingdom of Prussia (son of Michael Friedrich Köpsel and Anna Maria Budahn); died on 27 Mar 1898 in Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried after 27 Mar 1898 in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Determining the actual date of Michael Friedrich August Köpsel’s emigration to the United States is very difficult. The only other Köpsel (Koepsel or Koebsel) family to travel from Germany to the US in the 1840’s was the family of Carl Koebsel, and that family did have a son August, but he was only 17 years of age in 1846 when they emigrated. Moreover, [US-INS-1855a] indicates that our ‘August Köpsel’ traveled in 1847 rather than 1846. Consequently, the author believes that Michael Friedrich August Köpsel did indeed emigrate in 1847 and on the same ship as his future wife, Carolina Dorothea Ulrica (“Emily”) Budahn. His entry in the ship’s manifest seems to appear on the last line of the second page Michael married Carolina Dorothea Ulrica Budahn about 1851. Carolina (daughter of Christian Heinrich Budahn and Anna Maria Schulz) was born on 9 Jun 1834 in Dannenberg, Wollin Parish, Pomerania, Kingdom of Prussia; died on 18 Oct 1908 in Kenosha, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried on 20 Oct 1908 in (unknown). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
7. | Carolina Dorothea Ulrica Budahn was born on 9 Jun 1834 in Dannenberg, Wollin Parish, Pomerania, Kingdom of Prussia (daughter of Christian Heinrich Budahn and Anna Maria Schulz); died on 18 Oct 1908 in Kenosha, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried on 20 Oct 1908 in (unknown). Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Handwritten notes of Mary Adelaide Rauls notes state, “died at age 67,” but the 1850 US Federal Census for Dodge County Caroline’s age as 16.

12. | Michael Friedrich Köpsel was born about 1793 in (unknown); died on 30 Dec 1829 in Dannenberg, Wollin Parish, Pomerania, Kingdom of Prussia; was buried on 4 Jan 1930 in (unknown). Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: The listed parish of Michael Friedrich Köpsel’s death is “Neu Colzow”. Colzow was apparently a subdivision of Wollin Parish. Michael married Anna Maria Budahn on 19 Oct 1820 in Dannenberg, Wollin Parish, Pomerania, Kingdom of Prussia. Anna (daughter of Johann Budahn and Maria Fromholzen) was born in ? in Dannenberg, Wollin Parish, Swedish Pomerania; died in ? in (unknown). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
13. | Anna Maria Budahn was born in ? in Dannenberg, Wollin Parish, Swedish Pomerania (daughter of Johann Budahn and Maria Fromholzen); died in ? in (unknown). Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Anna Maria’s surname which is almost impossible to read in [Greifswald-1823a] and [Greifswald-1820b], is quite clearly “Budahns” in [Greifswald-1821a], but since she appears to be a daughter of Johann Budahn and Maria Fromholzen, her surname is listed as “Budahn” in alignment with her other bothers and sisters.

14. | Christian Heinrich Budahn was born on 11 Nov 1793 in Dannenberg, Wollin Parish, Swedish Pomerania (son of Johann Budahn and Maria Fromholzen); died on 27 Oct 1879 in Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried after 27 Oct 1879 in Hochheim Cemetery, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Mueller-1999] and [Heian-2010] have “Heinrich Budahn’s” birth listed as “Donnerberg, Usedom-Wollin, Prussia” and “Stettin, Pomerania, Prussia” respectively. However, neither of these locations is supported by any vital records uncovered thus far. Moreover, the only contemporary reference for a “Donnerberg” is probably an historic village near Aachen in Nordhein-Wesfalen, a considerable distance from Gristow where Christian Heinrich Budahn and Anna Maria Schulz were married. On the other hand, [Greifswald-1820a] states that Christian Heinrich Budahn was “...of Dannenberg”, a village on the island of Wollin at the edge of the Baltic Sea. The modern location is the Polish village of Domysłów, Wolin. [Greifswald-1820a] is not conclusive evidence that Christian Heinrich Budahn was born in Dannenberg, but it is much more likely than locations supplied by other sources. Christian married Anna Maria Schulz on 18 Oct 1820 in Gristow, Cammin Parish, Pomerania, Kingdom of Prussia. Anna (daughter of Johan Schulz and Anna Christina Pidd) was born on 19 Sep 1802 in Michaelis, Usedom-Wollin, Swedish Pomerania; died on 27 Jan 1880 in Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried after 27 Jan 1880 in Hochheim Cemetery, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
15. | Anna Maria Schulz was born on 19 Sep 1802 in Michaelis, Usedom-Wollin, Swedish Pomerania (daughter of Johan Schulz and Anna Christina Pidd); died on 27 Jan 1880 in Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States; was buried after 27 Jan 1880 in Hochheim Cemetery, Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Heian-2010] has Anna Maria Schulz’ birth at Schokken, Posen, Prussia, but this is contradicted by [Miller-1999]..
