In 1942 Louvena Presley was living in Healdton, Carter County, Oklahoma with her second husband.

There are three Tennessee locations named “Laurel Hill,” in Chester, De Kalb, and Lawrence counties. It is not known which of these was the birth place of Louvena Calloway Presley.

    Notes:

Numerous references have Delina Langford’s husband listed as “William Henry Herndon”, but the only vital record with such a reference discovered thus far is [TxDoSHS-1948a], the death certificate of William Herndon’s youngest son James Augustus. A few sources have the name “William Wallace Herndon”. However, there is no clear evidence that either of these is correct.

The Find-a-Grave entry for William Herndon, referenced in source [Bethlehem-Baptist-1877a], lists his birthplace as Caroline County, Virginia.

William married Delina Langford on 27 Sep 1849 in _______, _______, South Carolina, United States. Delina (daughter of George Perry Langford and Mary Collins) was born in Mar 1828 in _______, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States; died on 7 Jul 1922 in Kirbyville, Jasper County, Texas, United States. Notes:

[Herndon-1950a] as well as the LDS Church Ancestral File refer to William Herndon’s wife as “Dalena Lankford”, but this fact has no substantiating evidence. Langford family records, though, list a daughter of George Perry Langford named “Delina” who married William Herndon.

    Children:
    1. George Wallace Herndon was born on 20 Jun 1850 in Kings Mountain, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States; died on 4 Oct 1911 in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States; was buried after 4 Oct 1911 in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  John Herndon was born in 1774 in _______, Charlotte County, Colony of Virginia (son of Joseph Herndon and (unknown) Netherland); died before Sep 1850 in near Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States; was buried before Sep 1850 in near Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States.

    Notes:

[Herndon-1950a] has John Herndon’s death in 1851. However, this date is suspect considering that a 68 year old “Elizabeth Herndon” (probably Elizabeth (Mealer) Herndon) was living with her son William in 1850.

John married Elizabeth Mealer on 12 Dec 1805 in _______, Charlotte County, Virginia, United States. Elizabeth was born on 10 Dec 1781 in _______, _______, Virginia, United States; died on 19 Apr 1860 in Yorkville, York County, South Carolina, United States; was buried after 19 Apr 1860 in Rose Hill Cemetery, York County, South Carolina, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Census: 24 Sep 1850, _______, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States

    Notes:

The USGS GNIS has no reference to a “Yorkville”, South Carolina, but York, York County, South Carolina is supposed to occupy the same location.

[Herndon-1950a] states that after John Herndon’s death Elizabeth Mealer lived with her eldest son Joseph in South Carolina. However at the time of the 1850 US Federal Census, she was living with her son William in Cleveland County, North Carolina.,

In 1850, a 10 year old “Sophia Herndon,” probably Sophia Jane Herndon Elizabeth’s grand-daughter by her eldest son Joseph, is living in the Herndon household in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Why Sophia was living with her grandmother and the whereabouts of Joseph are unknown, but it is likely that Sophia’s mother had died by 1850, as Joseph had remarried sometime before 1849.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Cause of Death: Hanged for murder
    • Census: 28 Sep 1850, _______, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States

    Notes:

Numerous sources disagree on whether the family name is “Langford” or “Lankford”. Even 1840 and 1850 US Federal Census records differ on the spelling from one census to the next. However the trial transcript of George’s murder lists his name as Langford. In addition, the 1840 US Federal Census lists a “George Langford,” living with his wife, 6 daughters, and one son in Lincoln County, North Carolina.

George married Mary Collins before 1828. Mary was born about 1801 in _______, Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States; died on 12 Sep 1852 in _______, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
