1. | Robert Stanley Fairbanks was born on 28 Jan 1906 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States (son of Robert Fairbanks and Hannah Elizabeth Lowe); died on 23 Feb 1982 in Saint Louis, Missouri, United States; was buried on 26 Feb 1982 in Memorial Park Cemetery, Saint Louis, Missouri, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Residence: Robert married Ruth Edna Tutein on 20 Jul 1933 in Saint Louis, Missouri, United States. Ruth (daughter of William Franklin Tutein and Harriet Cole Eastman) was born on 25 Sep 1907 in Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts, United States; died on 12 Oct 1998 in O’Fallon, St. Charles County, Missouri, United States; was buried on 14 Oct 1998 in Memorial Park Cemetery, Saint Louis, Missouri, United States. 2. | Robert Fairbanks was born on 3 Sep 1867 in Coolaney, County Sligo, Province of Connacht, Ireland, United Kingdom; was christened on 20 Sep 1867 in Coolaney, County Sligo, Province of Connacht, Ireland, United Kingdom (son of Richard Fairbanks and Euphemia Thomson); died on 18 Dec 1931 in Melrose, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried after 18 Dec 1931 in Edson Cemetery, Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Fairbanks-1978] has Robert Fairbanks’ birthplace as Coventry, England in 1869. [US-INS-1898a] has Robert’s birth in Warwickshire, England on 3 Sep 1867. However both of these conflict with [Sligo-1867]. In this database we use “3 Sep” on the presumption that Robert knew his own birth date and that 20 Sep 1867 (from the Irish civil registration records) is probably Robert’s christening date--actual birth dates being recorded only very rarely in England and Ireland at the time. For the birth location, we use Coolaney, County Sligo, Province of Connaught, Ireland--First, because it is the only actual birth record found for Robert that is consistent with his father’s occupation, his mother’s maiden name, and the birth locations of most of his siblings. Second, Englishmen born abroad frequently lied about the location in order to avoid discrimination. It should be noted that both Coventry and Warwickshire are consistent with where Richard and Euphemia (Thomson) Fairbanks where living when their eldest son John Edward was born in 1862. Robert married Hannah Elizabeth Lowe on 2 Feb 1893 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Hannah (daughter of Samuel Lowe and Maria Chadwick) was born on 9 Apr 1869 in _______, _______, England, United Kingdom; died on 25 Nov 1943 in Melrose, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried after 25 Nov 1943 in Edson Cemetery, Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
3. | Hannah Elizabeth Lowe was born on 9 Apr 1869 in _______, _______, England, United Kingdom (daughter of Samuel Lowe and Maria Chadwick); died on 25 Nov 1943 in Melrose, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried after 25 Nov 1943 in Edson Cemetery, Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Despite all family evidence to the contrary, it appears that Hannah Elizabeth Lowe may have been christened “Elizabeth Lowe,” and was known by that name at various points in her life. First, [US-1880-1q] and [US-1870-2d2] list Hannah as “Elizabeth A. Lowe”. Second, on 4 Apr 1869, an Elizabeth Lowe, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Lowe, was christened at St. Mary’s Church, Manchester, Lancashire, England. Third, Hannah Elizabeth Lowe is listed twice, first as “Elizabeth H” and then again as “Lizzie” in the birth entry for her eldest son, Samuel. Notes: [NEHGS-1893a] does not actually state that Robert Fairbanks and Hannah Elizabeth Lowe were married in Boston. But since they were both living in Boston at the time, the marriage was registered in Boston, and the officiating pastor was from Boston, they’re having been married in Boston seems very likely.

4. | Richard Fairbanks was born about 1837 in (unknown) (son of Edward Fairbanks and Eliza Mann); died on 29 Dec 1885 in Templehouse, County Sligo, Province of Connacht, Ireland, United Kingdom. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Fairbanks-1978] states that Richard Fairbanks was the ‘Chief Steward of the Temple family of Coventry’. This is probably a reference to Henry Lord Temple, 3rd Viscount Palmerston who was known to have estates in Scotland and Ireland, including Cassiebawn Castle and estate in northwestern County Sligo. However, most of Richard Fairbanks’ children were born in the area of Temple House Estate, the ancestral home of the Perceval family near Ballymote. In fact, two daughters, Beatrice and Margaret, are actually listed as being born at ‘Temple House’. Given these facts, it is more likely that Richard Fairbanks worked for the Perceval family in some capacity rather than for Lord Palmerston. Richard married Euphemia Thomson on 19 Nov 1860 in Kingsbarns, Kingsbarns Parish, County Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom. Euphemia (daughter of John Thomson and Margaret Kay) was born on 15 Nov 1840 in Kingsbarns, Kingsbarns Parish, County Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom; died about Sep 1908 in _______, County Sligo, Province of Connacht, Ireland, United Kingdom. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
5. | Euphemia Thomson was born on 15 Nov 1840 in Kingsbarns, Kingsbarns Parish, County Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom (daughter of John Thomson and Margaret Kay); died about Sep 1908 in _______, County Sligo, Province of Connacht, Ireland, United Kingdom. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: According to [Fairbanks-1949], Euphemia died at the age of 58 attended by two of her children (a son and a daughter) who then emigrated to Australia after their mother’s death--the other children having emigrated previously. However this is contradicted by [UK-GRO-1908a] and [LaAC-1913a]. The children that were living with Euphemia at the time of her death were probably Thomas and Martha, both of whom emigrated to Canada along with their sister Beatrice in 1913. Notes: Richard Fairbanks and Euphemia Thomson were married at the “Manse of Kingsbarns”--in other words, at the minister’s home or residence.

6. | Samuel Lowe was born on 7 Dec 1846 in Didsbury, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom (son of Samuel Lowe and Ann Morley); died on 11 Feb 1905 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried after 11 Feb 1905 in Edson Cemetery, Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: In addition to his position at the Atlantic Works, Samuel was a machinist at T. A. Harrison’s Mill, Stalybridge, England and a Master Mechanic at the China Mill in Suncook, New Hampshire. It was the China Mill that sponsored the emigration of Samuel Lowe and his family to the United States. Samuel married Maria Chadwick after 2 Feb 1867 in _______, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom. Maria (daughter of Allen Chadwick and Mary Firth) was born on 9 Oct 1846 in Stalybridge, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom; was christened on 20 Jun 1847 in Saint Michael’s, Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom; died on 2 Feb 1934 in Melrose, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried after 2 Feb 1934 in Edson Cemetery, Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
7. | Maria Chadwick was born on 9 Oct 1846 in Stalybridge, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom; was christened on 20 Jun 1847 in Saint Michael’s, Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom (daughter of Allen Chadwick and Mary Firth); died on 2 Feb 1934 in Melrose, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried after 2 Feb 1934 in Edson Cemetery, Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: At the time of the 1900, 1920, and 1930 US Federal Census, Maria (Chadwick) Lowe was living with her son-in-law, Robert Fairbanks and daughter Hannah Elizabeth (Lowe) Fairbanks. Notes: Note the unusual use of his mother’s maiden name, “Morley”, in Samuel Lowe’s marriage intention.

12. | Samuel Lowe was born before 4 Jun 1826 in Stockport, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom; was christened on 4 Jun 1826 in Stockport, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom (son of Peter Lowe and Elizabeth Lowe); died after 1873 in _______, _______, England, United Kingdom. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Despite the usage in [Fairbanks-1978], there is no indication that Samuel Lowe’s referred to himself with the suffix “Sr.” Samuel married Ann Morley on 27 Dec 1846 in St. James Church, Didsbury, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. Ann (daughter of John Morley and Hannah Morley) was born about 1829 in Stockport, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom; died after 1902 in _______, _______, England, United Kingdom. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
13. | Ann Morley was born about 1829 in Stockport, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom (daughter of John Morley and Hannah Morley); died after 1902 in _______, _______, England, United Kingdom. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Residence: Notes: Didsbury is now part of Greater Manchester, England.

14. | Allen Chadwick was born before 4 Jul 1819 in Newton, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom (son of Samuel Chadwick and Mary Tomlinson); died before 16 Aug 1860 in Stalybridge, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom; was buried on 16 Aug 1860 in Dukinfield, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: It is not clear if the reference to “Newton, Cheshire” for Allan Chadwick’s birthplace refers to the modern town of “Newton Wood” which lies between Dukinfield (to the north) and Hyde (to the south) along the river Tame or to the town of Newton near Chester. The former is much more likely because of its proximity to Glossop, where Allan Chadwick married Mary Firth, to Stalybridge where he lived until his death, and to Mottram in Longdendale where most of his elder siblings were christened. Allen married Mary Firth on 11 Dec 1842 in Glossop, Parish of Glossop, Derbyshire, England, United Kingdom. Mary (daughter of David Firth and Martha Shaw) was born on 18 Oct 1822 in Marsden, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom; died before 1903 in _______, _______, _______, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
15. | Mary Firth was born on 18 Oct 1822 in Marsden, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom (daughter of David Firth and Martha Shaw); died before 1903 in _______, _______, _______, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: According to [Fairbanks-1978], Mary Firth lived in Bridge End, Derbyshire, England at the time of her marriage to Allen Chadwick, but contemporary geographic records do not list a Bridge End (or even the more common “Bridgend”) in Derbyshire. Notes: [FreeBMD-2005a] has an entry for the marriage of Allen Chadwick and Mary Firth that corroborates the information in [Glossop,1842] and lists the district as “Hayfield, County Derbyshire” the month as December but does not list the day.,
