Notes: Numerous sources disagree on whether the family name is “Langford” or “Lankford”. Even 1840 and 1850 US Federal Census records differ on the spelling from one census to the next. However the trial transcript of George’s murder lists his name as Langford. In addition, the 1840 US Federal Census lists a “George Langford,” living with his wife, 6 daughters, and one son in Lincoln County, North Carolina. George married Mary Collins before 1828.
