Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: It is odd that the 1850 Federal Census for MA lists Edward as having been born in New Hampshire, like his elder brother Frederick, when a birth record for Chelsea, Massachusetts exists. Edward married Annie Eldora Wright on 17 Aug 1867 in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. 4. | Friedrich Johannes Tutein was born on 4 Dec 1798 in Copenhagen, Denmark (son of Johann Friederick Tutein and Maria Susannah van Beverhoudt); died in 1858 in _______, _______, Massachusetts, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: 1873, widely reported in LDS sources as the year of Friedrich Tutein’s death, appears to be incorrect. 1858, on the other hand, reported in [Gross-1901a], is consistent with the fact that Friedrich Tutein’s wife Nancy, son Frederick J, and daughter Mary E were all living with his eldest son Constantine in 1860. Friedrich married Nancy Stacy on 14 Jul 1833 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Nancy (daughter of Philemon Stacy and Polly Bray Edgily) was born on 27 Oct 1804 in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts, United States; died on 2 Aug 1881 in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
5. | Nancy Stacy was born on 27 Oct 1804 in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts, United States (daughter of Philemon Stacy and Polly Bray Edgily); died on 2 Aug 1881 in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: It appears that Nancy Stacy married a John Campbell before her marriage Friedrich Johannes Tutein, as a son from that marriage, William Campbell, is living in the Tutein household in 1850 and 1855. This also explains why, when she married Friedrich Johannes Tutein she stated her name as “Nancy Campbell”, while most of her children referred to her in vital records as “Nancy Stacy”. It is not clear how the names “Nancy Gross Stacy”, [Tutein-1997a] or “Nancy Gross” [Nolthenius-1998] were derived, since the only reference to “Gross” is its use as her youngest son’s (by Friedrich) middle name.

8. | Johann Friederick Tutein was born before 2 May 1764 in (unknown) (son of Jean Thierry Tutein and Esther Cornil); died on 26 Nov 1813 in Saint Croix, Danish West Indies. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: The island of St. Croix was sold to the United States in 1916 and was organized as part of the US Virgin Islands, a US protectorate, the following year. Johann + Maria Susannah van Beverhoudt. Maria (daughter of Lucas van Beverhoudt) was born in ? in (unknown); died in ? in (unknown). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
9. | Maria Susannah van Beverhoudt was born in ? in (unknown) (daughter of Lucas van Beverhoudt); died in ? in (unknown). Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Maria Susannah van Beverhoudt’s race is listed as “mustice” in [VISAH-1809a]. This means that she was the child of one white and one mulatto parent. According to the classifications of the time, Maria would have been 3/4’s european/caucasian and 1/4 african/negro descent.

10. | Philemon Stacy was born on 22 Jul 1772 in _______, _______, Province of Massachusetts Bay (son of Philemon Stacy and Mary Rand); died on 30 Jun 1813 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried on 3 Jul 1813 in South Burial Ground, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Graves-1901a] lists 13 June 1813 as Philemon Stacy’s death date. The source of this date is not known, but it conflicts with Massachusetts vital records as recorded in [Holbrook-1813a]. Philemon married Polly Bray Edgily on 27 Nov 1796 in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. Polly was born on 14 Mar 1772 in _______, _______, Province of Massachusetts Bay; died on 16 Feb 1845 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried on 19 Feb 1845 in South Burial Ground, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
11. | Polly Bray Edgily was born on 14 Mar 1772 in _______, _______, Province of Massachusetts Bay; died on 16 Feb 1845 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States; was buried on 19 Feb 1845 in South Burial Ground, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Research suggests that this woman may have been Polly Hooper, who is recorded as having married James Edgily in 1789. This would account for the fact that some Massachusetts list Philemon Stacy’s wife as “Mrs. Polly Edgily”.
