1. | Caroline Delena Herndon was born on 20 Oct 1888 in Chicota, Lamar County, Texas, United States (daughter of George Wallace Herndon and Mary Emma Draper); died on 28 Aug 1955 in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States; was buried on 28 Aug 1955 in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Anderson-1964] has Caroline Delena Herndon born on 20 Oct 1880. But this does not agree with IGI or census records of her father’s family (George Wallace Herndon and Mary Emma Draper). Caroline married Charles Spurgeon Flanagan on 20 Apr 1910 in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States. Charles was born on 24 Nov 1882 in Tunis, Burleson County, Texas, United States; died on 13 Mar 1967 in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States; was buried on 15 Mar 1967 in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] Notes: [Anderson-1964] lists an “O. B. Flanagan”, the 5th and youngest child of Charles Spurgeon Flanagan and Carolina Delena (Herndon) Flanagan. However, US census records show no such child ever being enumerated in the Flanagan household. The individual referred to may be, Orin B Flanagan, the son of Clifford and Stella Flanagan of Red River, Texas later the Hugo, Choctaw County area of Oklahoma. Orin (sometimes “Olin”) B Flanagan died 5 Feb 1994 in Hugo and may be buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, but he is not buried in the Flanagan family plot.Children:

2. | George Wallace Herndon was born on 20 Jun 1850 in Kings Mountain, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States (son of William Herndon and Delina Langford); died on 4 Oct 1911 in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States; was buried after 4 Oct 1911 in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: George Wallace Herndon was enumerated with his mother and brothers in Precinct No. 1, Lamar County, Texas in 1880. The whereabouts of his wife, Mary Emma (Draper) Herndon and his two eldest sons Justin Alonzo Herndon and William Draper Herndon are not known. George married Mary Emma Draper on 23 Dec 1875 in Chicota, Lamar County, Texas, United States. Mary (daughter of Robert Wilkins Draper and Susan Elliott Littlejohn) was born on 8 Jan 1857 in _______, Calhoun County, Alabama, United States; died on 6 Feb 1937 in El Paso, El Paso County, Texas, United States; was buried on 9 Feb 1937 in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
3. | Mary Emma Draper was born on 8 Jan 1857 in _______, Calhoun County, Alabama, United States (daughter of Robert Wilkins Draper and Susan Elliott Littlejohn); died on 6 Feb 1937 in El Paso, El Paso County, Texas, United States; was buried on 9 Feb 1937 in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Mary Emma Draper was living in the home of her daughter Justina and son-in-law Edward A Dunne at the time of her death in 1937. This is corroborated by sources [Hugo-1934] and [Hugo-1937]. Notes: [Anderson-1964] incorrectly lists 22 Dec 1875 as the date of George Wallace Herndon’s marriage to Mary Emma Draper.

4. | William Herndon was born on 23 Mar 1808 in _______, Charlotte County, Virginia, United States (son of John Herndon and Elizabeth Mealer); died on 19 Apr 1877 in _______, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States; was buried after 19 Apr 1877 in Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery, Kings Mountain, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Numerous references have Delina Langford’s husband listed as “William Henry Herndon”, but the only vital record with such a reference discovered thus far is [TxDoSHS-1948a], the death certificate of William Herndon’s youngest son James Augustus. A few sources have the name “William Wallace Herndon”. However, there is no clear evidence that either of these is correct. William married Delina Langford on 27 Sep 1849 in _______, _______, South Carolina, United States. Delina (daughter of George Perry Langford and Mary Collins) was born in Mar 1828 in _______, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States; died on 7 Jul 1922 in Kirbyville, Jasper County, Texas, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
5. | Delina Langford was born in Mar 1828 in _______, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States (daughter of George Perry Langford and Mary Collins); died on 7 Jul 1922 in Kirbyville, Jasper County, Texas, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: [Herndon-1950a] as well as the LDS Church Ancestral File refer to William Herndon’s wife as “Dalena Lankford”, but this fact has no substantiating evidence. Langford family records, though, list a daughter of George Perry Langford named “Delina” who married William Herndon.

6. | Robert Wilkins Draper was born on 27 Apr 1820 in Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States (son of Joshua Draper and Nancy Wilkins); died on 8 Jan 1894 in Chicota, Lamar County, Texas, United States; was buried after 8 Jan 1894 in Littlejohn Cemetery, near Chicota, Lamar County, Texas, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Robert Wilkins Draper moved to Alabama in 1845 shortly after his marriage to Susan Elliott Littlejohn. After the birth of all of his children save Sarah Elizabeth (his eldest) and Daniel Napoleon (his youngest), the family moved to Texes, on 18 Sep 1865. Robert married Susan Elliott Littlejohn on 21 Jan 1844 in Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. Susan (daughter of William Littlejohn and Elizabeth Lipscomb) was born on 26 May 1826 in Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States; died on 15 Nov 1867 in Chicota, Lamar County, Texas, United States; was buried after 15 Nov 1867 in Littlejohn Cemetery, near Chicota, Lamar County, Texas, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
7. | Susan Elliott Littlejohn was born on 26 May 1826 in Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States (daughter of William Littlejohn and Elizabeth Lipscomb); died on 15 Nov 1867 in Chicota, Lamar County, Texas, United States; was buried after 15 Nov 1867 in Littlejohn Cemetery, near Chicota, Lamar County, Texas, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: A woman who appears to be a 54 year old Susan Elliott (Littlejohn) Draper appears in [US-1880-1u] as the wife of Robert Wilkins Draper--despite the fact that both [Anderson-1964] and [Chicota-2002] support a death date of 15 Nov 1867. The latter is particularly convincing as it is “Susan E Littlejohn’s” cemetery monument. For the moment, this database assumes that the census record is incorrect, but a 1870 census record for Lamar County, Texas is needed.

8. | John Herndon was born in 1774 in _______, Charlotte County, Colony of Virginia (son of Joseph Herndon and (unknown) Netherland); died before Sep 1850 in near Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States; was buried before Sep 1850 in near Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States. Notes: [Herndon-1950a] has John Herndon’s death in 1851. However, this date is suspect considering that a 68 year old “Elizabeth Herndon” (probably Elizabeth (Mealer) Herndon) was living with her son William in 1850. John married Elizabeth Mealer on 12 Dec 1805 in _______, Charlotte County, Virginia, United States. Elizabeth was born on 10 Dec 1781 in _______, _______, Virginia, United States; died on 19 Apr 1860 in Yorkville, York County, South Carolina, United States; was buried after 19 Apr 1860 in Rose Hill Cemetery, York County, South Carolina, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
9. | Elizabeth Mealer was born on 10 Dec 1781 in _______, _______, Virginia, United States; died on 19 Apr 1860 in Yorkville, York County, South Carolina, United States; was buried after 19 Apr 1860 in Rose Hill Cemetery, York County, South Carolina, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: The USGS GNIS has no reference to a “Yorkville”, South Carolina, but York, York County, South Carolina is supposed to occupy the same location.

10. | George Perry Langford was born about 1808 in _______, _______, North Carolina, United States (son of George Langford and Delina Perry); died on 6 Jun 1853 in Lincolnton, Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States. Other Events and Attributes:
Notes: Numerous sources disagree on whether the family name is “Langford” or “Lankford”. Even 1840 and 1850 US Federal Census records differ on the spelling from one census to the next. However the trial transcript of George’s murder lists his name as Langford. In addition, the 1840 US Federal Census lists a “George Langford,” living with his wife, 6 daughters, and one son in Lincoln County, North Carolina. George married Mary Collins before 1828. Mary was born about 1801 in _______, Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States; died on 12 Sep 1852 in _______, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
11. | Mary Collins was born about 1801 in _______, Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States; died on 12 Sep 1852 in _______, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States. Other Events and Attributes:

Notes: USGS has no reference to a “Union Cemetery” in Calhoun County, Alabama, despite numerous references to it in [Anderson-1964]. Joshua married Nancy Wilkins on 8 Feb 1803 in near Spartanburg, Union County, South Carolina, United States. Nancy (daughter of William Wilkins and Ann Elizabeth Terrell) was born on 17 Mar 1784 in near Spartanburg, Union County, South Carolina, United States; died on 1 May 1847 in Alexandria, Calhoun County, Alabama, United States; was buried in May 1847 in Union Methodist Church Cemetery, Wellington, Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
13. | Nancy Wilkins was born on 17 Mar 1784 in near Spartanburg, Union County, South Carolina, United States (daughter of William Wilkins and Ann Elizabeth Terrell); died on 1 May 1847 in Alexandria, Calhoun County, Alabama, United States; was buried in May 1847 in Union Methodist Church Cemetery, Wellington, Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. Notes: [Anderson-1964] lists Nancy Wilkins’ birth place as “Spartanburg, Union County, South Carolina,” but Spartanburg has never been part of Union County, hence this database lists the location as “near Spartanburg. In addition, all of Nancy Wilkins’ siblings were, according to LDS Ancestra File, born in Virginia (or Georgia)”.
