Notes:
[US-1870-1f] has Mathias’ name as “Matthias Raulz,” a common spelling for that surname.
In [LDS-VRI-1876a], Mathias Rauls lists his parents as John (probably Johann) and Mary Rauls.
In [US-1900-2b], Matthias Rauls lists his birthdate as May 1818.
It is a common misconception in the Bonnell family that the Peter Rauls (and family), listed in [US-1860-1l] just below Mathias Rauls, is actually his son. To the contrary, Peter, son of Mathias and Elizabeth Meyer, was born in 1842 and still listed in his father’s household in 1860.
[US-1900-2b] lists Mathias and Magdalena Rauls as having been married for 46 years in 1900. If this is, in fact, the case, then the parentage of 4 of 9 of the children of Mathias and Elizabeth Meyer would be called into question. Moreover, since Mathias is enumerated in US Federal Census’ up through 1870 in the same household as Elizabeth, the notation in [US-1900-2b] seems likely to be an error on the part of the census taker or the reporter.
